You probably have questions about our dental procedures, and fortunately, we have answers. The following questions are common with our patients. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions not addressed here.
A. Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation(TENS) is a battery-powered unit that sends electrical impulses through electrodes placed on or near the pain site. As the electrical impulses stimulate muscles, a tingling sensation occurs and the pain subsides. TENS can be combined with other therapies to treat neuromuscular/TMJ symptoms. TENS is also used to help in initial diagnosis and treatment planning for cosmetic dentistry, especially if the patient experiences pain, muscle tension, migraines, or frequent headaches.
We offer a variety of TMJ treatments, including medication, TENS, splints, and restorations to relieve headache pain. Please contact Dr. Bis for a consultation to discuss the treatment option that's right for you.
How does Dr. Bis keep up to date on the latest techniques and materials?
Dr. Bis subscribes to current industry journals to keep tabs on research and developments in the dental industry. She continues her dental education by regularly undergoing a variety of courses, especially those regarding esthetic dentistry techniques and neuromuscular dentistry. She attended the renowned Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies, a world renowned postgraduate institution.
Why have other medical professionals told me neuromuscular dentistry does not work?
As with many innovative medical therapies, some schools of thought do not subscribe to neuromuscular or TMJ treatment for migraine and pain relief. For instance, chiropractic care, as well as homeopathic and Eastern medicine techniques, are not supported by every medical professional. We have found that many of our patients benefit greatly from neuromuscular and TMJ therapies, and we also believe that because these treatments offer pain relief, they are worthwhile. If you would like pain relief through TMJ therapies, please call us. We have invested in technology that will assess your bite to determine if TMJ or muscle is the source of your pain. After diagnosis, we have diverse therapies to offer relief.
A. At your first appointment, we prepare your teeth for the veneers and take an impression of your front teeth. We then send the impression to a lab where certified technicians handcraft your veneers from the impression. In the mean time, temporary veneers will be applied to your front teeth so that you can experience your new smile immediately. At your second appointment, we'll permanently attach the new, permanent veneers to your natural teeth. Dr. Bis stands by the quality of her veneers and only uses veneers that offer a five-year warranty.
We've all seen people who have teeth so white that their smile appears to be completely false. Dr. Bis carefully matches the shade of your teeth with your skin tone. As a result, your white, dazzling teeth will not distract from the rest of your attractive appearance.
Since every insurance plan is unique, we can't say whether the procedures you need will be covered. Many cosmetic procedures are not routinely covered by dental insurance, while a good portion of general and restorative techniques are partially covered. We can help you determine whether your proposed procedures are covered by dental insurance if you bring your complete insurance information to the office or call us for more information.
